FMI Library

The library of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics is a part of the structure of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” Library and is its third biggest affiliate. 

Fund of the Library (some statistics)

The collection of books is about 85 000 library items:

• over 64 000 books–monographs, textbooks, handbooks, collections, reports from scientific conferences;

• a rich collection of reference books–general and thematic encyclopaedias;

• reference books in the field of mathematics, informatics and technical sciences, dictionaries of linguistics, bilingual, multilingual dictionaries, glossaries, handbooks, almanacs and others;

• over 21 000 periodicals in 740 titles. The library has a rich collection of foreign scientific periodicals;

• 115 titles of current scientific journals for 2009-2010 in Bulgarian, Russian, English, German;

Activities of FMI Library

• Procures, stores and provides specialized literature in the field of mathematics, informatics and mechanics, which helps the learning and research process;

• Performs library, bibliographic and information services, combining traditional forms of library service with the provision of resources and online services;

Library and Information Services

• Borrowing for home

  FMI students can borrow library materials for home only from Student Reading Room according to the rules for borrowing:

  –Presenting of a library card;

  –Reference books, periodicals, single copies, rare and valuable literature cannot be taken outside the reading room;

  –The limit for borrowing is three books per month with the right to take them again per month if they are not sought by another reader;

• Use of library documents in the reading rooms;

• Searching for information in traditional catalogues;

• Use of the online catalogue of the University Library;

(Available for free on the Internet. Includes all library materials submitted after 1992. Literature before this period can only be found in traditional catalogues.)

• Preparation of bibliographic and information reference;

• Searching for information in online databases accessible by IP address;

• Interlibrary loan and international interlibrary loan;

If the library does not have the documents you need (a book or an article), it can deliver them from other libraries in the country or abroad.

For this purpose it is necessary that you:

–fill out a standard form with the bibliographic data of the document or

–place an order online

• Deliver of documents by electronic means (DDS);

You receive the ordered journal articles or parts of books (up to 30 pages from books) as a PDF file by email.
